Publishing to HTML5 and Player for iPad

I have searched everywhere and cannot find the answer to my questions. I am using Presenter 13.

Can anyone tell me if I publish for the HTML5 and Player for iPad options, does the presentation.html link automatically determine whether or not the user is using an iPad or on a mobile device? Or do I have to provide separate links for each published version of the course?

Hi there June,

Articulate Presenter lets you publish courses for Flash, HTML5, and the Articulate Mobile Player app for iPad. To distribute your published content, upload it to your web server or LMS. Then link to the presentation.html file in the published output.

Here’s how Presenter determines which version of your content to display when learners view it:

  • Learners will see the Flash version of your content if their browser supports it.
  • If they're using an iPad and if you chose the Articulate Mobile Player option when you published, they'll see a launch page that allows them to view the course in the iPad app. (And if they don't have the app installed on their iPad yet, they'll see an option to install it.)
  • If they're using an iPad and you didn't choose the Articulate Mobile Player option when you published, but you did choose HTML5, they'll see the HTML5 output in mobile Safari.
  • If they're using some other non-Flash compatible browser and you marked the HTML5 option, they'll see the HTML5 output. (For a list of supported browsers, click here.)

So, you'll only need to provide on URL for learners to access the course :)

I hope that helps!

Hi Benny!

Yes. Articulate Storyline lets you publish courses for Flash, HTML5, and the Articulate Mobile Player app. To distribute your published content, upload it to your web server or LMS, then link to the story.html file in the published output. Here’s how Storyline determines which version of your content to display when learners view it.

Hey - wanted to warn you about publishing HTML5 content with presenter.  If you want the content to be compatible with iPad, check out the compatibility matrix.  It's a HUGE BUMMER to me, but if you create content with audio (like recorded narration)  and any time of animation (text, shapes, etc.) iPad will not play this content.  I've been trying to find a work around, so if anyone knows about a solution, please let me know!!!!

Hi Julia,

This is the chart you're referring to for HTML5, Flash and the mobile player, although I'm not sure which element you're referring to in regards to the audio and animation? Simultaneous audio/video is supported in all outputs, as are animations, but I don't see anything on that char saying audio and animations aren't supported together? Possibly you'd like to provide a copy of your Presenter package for our team to look at here?

Please also make sure you're viewing the content in one of the support devices and browsers as detailed here.

Hi Ashley,

I was referring to the section on playing both audio and video because there isn't anything about playing audio and animations/annotations so I assumed this was considered video.  I looked through the animations and annotations section and the ones i am using (wipe, checks and highlight) are all compatible.  I have tried to attached a file here but each time I select post reply, I receive a message that the link is broken.  If you would like to see a video of how it acts in an iPad,  I can record a few minutes and post to google+.  In order to share it with you, I'll need an email address though.  Just let me know.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Julia,

If you're unable to post to the forums you can send along to our Support team here. As per the Presenter '13 chart about comparing Flash, HTML5 and mobile output - I see it that simultaneous audio/video is supported, so if you're having difficulty with that we'll want to take a look:
